The
Creebridge House Hotel, which acquired its name from the nearby
River Cree, is situated in three acres of idyllic gardens and
woodland at the foot of the Kirroughtree Forest. Formerly owned by
the Earl of Galloway, this traditional Scottish country house
hotel preserves the peace and tranquility of rural life in elegant
surroundings. Yet, it is a mere three minutes' walk from the
thriving centre of Newton Stewart, and approximately half an
hour's drive from the busy port town of Stranraer. The main
restaurant which overlooks the landscaped gardens, uses only fresh
local produce for its menus, which are complemented by a
well-balanced wine list. Chef/Proprietor Chris Walker, and Head
chef Paul Sommerville have both won "The Taste of Scotland
Lamb Challenge" in 1993 and 1996 respectively and the
Creebridge House Hotel remains, to this day the only Hotel to win
this award twice. The luxurious drawing room with
magnificent period fireplace, lends itself perfectly to perhaps
read the newspaper, reflect upon the evening's menu, or to simply
enjoy a coffee or liqueur at the end of a perfect day. Should you
prefer a more informal repast, the Bridges Bar & Brasserie
offers lunchtime and evening meals. With over 35 malt whiskies and
a selection of fine real ales, the bar, also listed in the
C.A.M.R.A. Good Beer and Good Food Guide, is the ideal place to
meet and enjoy a pre- or post-dinner drink. The nineteen bedrooms,
recently re-furbished to the highest of standards, have private
bathrooms, colour television with satellite, tea & coffee
making facilities and direct dial telephones and offer a choice of
accommodation to suit most tastes.
