200
words on Royal Troon..... well where do you stop. The course reviews,
features and Open Championship coverage means that the course
is known all over the world. The Postage Stamp remains the signature
hole although since Tiger Woods drove the greenside bunker during
the last Open, the sixth holds some awe.
Then of course who
would forget Greg Norman’s loss after hitting his drive into the
cross bunkers at eighteen in the play off. Royal Troon is golfing
history itself and is therefore priced accordingly - the day ticket
includes a buffet lunch and a round over the adjacent Portland
Course. Access can be extremely difficult and no ladies are allowed
on the championship course and there are no visitor times at weekends.
The layout is a
typical Scottish Links with the first nine heading out almost
to Prestwick and the back nine coming back to the clubhouse and
like the rest of the Open Championship courses should be played
sometime in a golfing career.
