Lochgreen
is one of three public golf courses sharing the same piece of
links land in Troon. With some of the holes running adjacent to
Royal Troon’s Portland Course, you have some idea of the quality
of the terrain. The course is an excellent test of golf with the
courses stretching to 6822 of the back tees.
The par of 74 is
generous and the SSS of 71 off the standard tees reflects this.
Five par fives and three par threes gives ample variety and some
of the shorter par fours give an opportunity to make a good score.
There are some narrow fairways with well placed bunkers although
depending on the time of year the rough can be quite forgiving.
The course is superbly
maintained and the greens and bunkers are invariably in excellent
condition. Lochgreen like South Ayrshire Council’s other flagship
courses are not what you would expect from a municipal course
and indeed was a regular host to Open Qualifying competitions
in the past. Clubhouse and changing facilities are adequate and
catering affordable.
