Not
perhaps the most glamorously named golf course in Ayrshire but
certainly one worth playing. Located to the north of Irvine, Bogside
is the first in the chain of links courses that adjoin the sea
and travel southwards almost continuously to Prestwick St. Nicholas.
As
a links course, Bogside is used frequently as one of the Open
Championship final qualifying courses and whilst not the longest
in the world, sets a challenge via a number of blind holes and
difficult approaches to tight greens.
Bogside can undoubtedly be tough going if you don't know it and
a Strokesaver is recommended - conditions on the courses are improving
all the time. The course has been selected to be one of the four
courses for the inaugural Ayrshire Golf Classic in July 2000 alongside
Barassie, Belleisle and Turnberry Ailsa's Course.
The
facilities for the visitor are relatively good and access throughout
the week is not usually a problem. Green fees are medium priced
for the area.
