Brunston
Castle is one of the newer additions to Ayrshire's golfing pedigree.
Having opened during the eighties the course like many others
in the UK suffered some problems and a change of ownership.
Most recently the
course was bought by local interests and is showing all the signs
of establishing itself as one of the areas best parkland courses.
Only a few miles inland from Turnberry, Brunston Castle provides
a genuine challenge.
It is long in places
and when available buggies are recommended to ease some of the
walking but the holes themselves provide enough of a distraction.
With a good use of water, both natural and man made and plenty
of trees - al natural - the course is maturing year on year.
The new ownership
is overseeing great improvements to drainage and a new driving
range. The clubhouse facilities are as good as any in Ayrshire
with an excellent upstairs restaurant with panoramic views across
the Ayrshire countryside. Well worth a visit and good value for
a day out.
