Belleisle,
located just south of the town of Ayr, is widely regarded as one
of the very best municipal courses in Scotland.
At just under 6500
yards the course which is set in a mature parkland estate provides
a challenge for the very best of golfers but is balanced with
relatively forgiving fairways. The greens are very well maintained
and the course has a manicured feel not generally associated with
a public course.
As well as being host
to many Scottish Tournaments, both amateur and professional, the
course will also be one of the four host courses for the inaugural
Ayrshire Golf Classic in the year 2000 sitting alongside Barassie,
Bogside and the Ailsa Course at Turnberry. The course neighbours
Seafield which at under 5500 yards provides an excellent partner
for a not too tiring day's golf.
Green fees are around
£20 and it is part of South Ayrshire's Golf Coast discount scheme
where a three day unlimited golf pass will cost £60.
Clubhouse facilities
are limited although food is served in the adjacent Belleisle
House Hotel. Belleisle offers a superb itinerary addition for
weekend golf and can be complementary to Ayrshire's traditional
links courses.
