Situated
to the north of Troon, Barassie is perhaps best known as an Open
Championship Qualifying venue with some of the best kept greens
in Scotland. The course has undergone considerable changes over
the past three years and now has a 27 hole facility with the new
course playing throughout the season and the traditional course
during the winter months. The new layout has added a different
dimension to the course and whilst the Par of 72 seems standard
there is little standard about the SSS of 74.
The course measures
in off the back tees at just under 7000 yards and the new holes
provide some wonderful challenges perhaps no more so than the
par 3 fourth hole or the quirky double dogleg par 5 eighth. The
new course is a tough track but is typically what Scottish links
golf is about - large undulating greens, deep bunkers and a variety
of dog legs.
Combined with the
nine holes and its location close to Prestwick International Airport
or the ferry terminal at Troon Barassie is an excellent venue
for corporate or society days out. Excellent catering facilities
and extended pro shop and a major investment in changing room
facilities.
