This
demanding parkland course, which was designed by James Braid in
1938, is characterized by generous tree-lined fairways, large,
undulating greens, multiple teeing areas and lavish bunkering.
The championship stretch
has no par 4 shorter than 375 yards and concludes with two outstanding
holes. The 18th is a magnificent finishing hole, played slightly
uphill towards the imposing art deco clubhouse.
Known locally as Monktonhall, the course is the home for the Musselburgh
Amateur Championship (now over 100 years old) and has twice played
host to the Scottish PGA Championship.
