Marriot
Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club is set in acres of woodland with
the Pentland Hills as a backdrop and offers marvellous views of
Edinburgh Castle and the hills of Fife to the north. The East
Course is renowned throughout the world and is a wonderful test
of golf, while the shorter West Course provides a delightful foil
to its more illustrious neighbour.
The championship East Course has hosted many major events over
the years including the Solheim Cup, The Scottish Seniors Open
Championship and the PGA Championship of Scotland. Designed and
built in 1927 by James Braid the East Course has changed little
from the original layout.
The greens
are large in scale with immaculate putting surfaces and many of
the longer par 4 holes, with their intelligent use of trees and
hazards, offer a serious challenge to the golfer. The short holes
are well-bunkered and the 15th hole in particular, known as the
"Wee Wrecker", provides a tricky preamble to the treacherous par
4 sixteenth.
