Founded
in 1903, this 'links type' course is set on the cliffs above the
picturesque village of Portpatrick with magnificent views of the
North Channel, Irish coast, Mull of Kintyre and Isle of Man. Described
by Golf World as "The best holiday course in South West Scotland"
it is a true test for the most able player and enjoyable for the
modest competitor.
The
sea breeze ensures the golfer almost a different challenge every
day. The signature hole is the 13th - from an elevated tee it
is all downhill to the green with a backdrop of Sandeel Bay and
the rocky shoreline.
This
is a possible birdie chance but the breathtaking vista may disrupt
the concentration and golfers should be wary of the subtle slope
of the green. The club is renowned for its friendly atmosphere
where visitors have been made very welcome over the years.
