Founded
in 1889, Lamlash is Arran's oldest golf course. It was started
by a group of locals with the backing of Arran Estate and the
Duke and Duchess of Montrose, after raising funds by organizing
trips on the Clyde Paddle Steamer "Neptune". It began life as
a nine hole course and the first clubhouse was a teak ships' cabin/
wheelhouse.
In more recent times, it has had a makeover, with refurbishment
and extension to the clubhouse facilities so that it can cater
for the most discerning touring golf enthusiast, with excellent
locker room facilities for gents, ladies and juniors.
The
clubhouse overlooks the magnificent 18th green - perhaps the finest
finishing hole on the island, set against the magnificent backdrop
of the Arran landscape. If good food is required, Caddies Restaurant
will supply it.
