The
Ballina course provides not only relaxing golf for the handicapped
players but stiff challenges for championship golfers. The ladies
are well catered for as part of a family-friendly tradition at
the Club. The former President of Ireland Mrs. Mary Robinson,
a native of Ballina, is a Life Member of the Club. So also is
another notable, Jack Charlton, who plays his golf at Ballina
when he is not fishing the Moy, the world famous salmon river.
For
the enthusiast, the specifications of the lush fairways and manicured
greens of the Ballina course, guarded by water hazards and artful
bunkers owe everything to the skills of course architect Eddie
Hackett.
The par 5's are properly distributed and broken by shorter holes
to avoid any hint of monotony on what Eddie Hackett himself describes
as one of the most interesting courses in Ireland.
