Ring of Kerry golf course is an awe inspiring sight located in
Templenoe, 4 miles west of the town of Kenmare in South Kerry.
Designed by Eddie Hackett, his brief was to design a 'world class'
golf course that is sufficiently flexible to challenge competent
and experienced players from the back teeing areas, yet be capable
of being played and enjoyed by the average handicap player from
middle and forward teeing areas. The brief also included that
the golf course be to a standard capable of hosting smaller professional
golf events, both Irish and European.
Highlights of the course
6th
Hole - "Ladies View"
Par 4, 383 yards from an elevated tee box. The key to this hole
is the drive, with a following wind, an iron off the tee is strongly
advised to ensure a safe passage to the fairway, from where the
green can be easily reached with a mid-iron.
9th
Hole - "Cill Airne"
Par 4, 307 yards. A great match play hole, on the same lines as
the 10th at the Belfry. Short enough to drive but the entrance
to the green is narrowed by the lake that sweeps to the green-side
edge.
10th
Hole - "Derrynane"
Par 4, 441 yards. A challenging hole, demanding accuracy off the
tee and a strong iron or wood to reach the green, avoiding the
sand traps along the way.
