Situated
near the foot of the Ards Peninsula, Kirkistown Castle is a real
old-fashioned gem. James Braid assisted in the design of the course
and is reputed to have commented wistfully "If only I had this
within 50 miles of London."
This
challenging old links offers some very testing par 4's but the
signature hole is without doubt the infamous par-4 tenth hole.
With out of bounds on the left, subtle bunkering on the right
and an approach shot into a well guarded plateau green this 440
yards of 'sheer hell' must be one of the most daunting two-shotters
in Irish Golf.
