This
challenging parkland course which opened in August 1992 has been
acclaimed nationally and internationally since staging such tournaments
as the Ladies Irish Open in 1994 and 1995 and also the Irish Senior's
Open in May 1997. The modern design of Tom Craddock and Pat Ruddy
makes excellent use of water hazards and sculptured mounding.
St
Margaret's has had glowing tributes from such eminent golfers
as David Feherty and Joe Carr who performed the official opening
of St Margaret's during his term as R&A Captain in 1992, stating
that it equalled the best inland course in Ireland. David Feherty
refers to this course as "an absolute gem... a great course...
enjoy it."
The
feature holes on this superb modern parkland have received much
acclaim from golfers of all levels; Ryder Cup Star Sam Torrance
favours the eighteenth, claiming it to be "the best finishing
hole I have ever seen... and possibly the strongest and most exciting
in the world." The notorious par five eighth is a favourite of
Women's World No. 1, Laura Davies, who enthused "A cracking hole...
it rewards good golf."
St Margaret's Golf & Country Club is the perfect location
for your corporate needs, enjoying the ambience of a top class
golf resort. The conference centre is located at the top of the
building and offers the delegate breathtaking views of the golf
course and surrounding areas.
St Margaret's also offers the Cobra Golf Academy: a specialized
teaching facility, which was opened in June 1998. All lessons
are given off real turf and recorded on video. The video is then
downloaded to a computer where the swing can be compared side
by side with touring professionals such as Nick Faldo, Paul McGinley,
Brad Faxon, etc. This is a highly effective way of learning because
golfers get to visually see their swing, and understand the instruction
of their teaching professional.
