The
K Club to the west of Dublin in Co. Kildare has been host to the
Smurfit European Open since 1995, and more recently and famously
has been awarded the hosting of The Ryder Cup in 2006.
The
European Open has raised the profile of the course to the very
highest level and the course has become a must play for many visitors
to Ireland's East Coast.
The course was designed by Arnold Palmer and winds itself thorough
mature parkland and crosses the River Liffey. As you would expect
the course is manicured to perfection with superb sculptured water
features being prominent throughout the course. As for a signature
hole well each player would have their own memorise. The eighteenth
with its waterfall or the approach to sixteen are memorable; as
are the other sixteen.
The
facilities in the clubhouse if possible surpass the playing experience.
The drive into the estate will take you past the five star chateau
style hotel towards the clubhouse with its balcony overlooking
the lake at the eighteenth. All in all the K Club exudes style
and for the visiting golfer it is perhaps worth the extra expense
associated with playing it. Certainly there's few who have played
it would begrudge a penny (or even euro).
