Golf
has been played at Woodenbridge since 1884. Up until 1994 however,
the course was a picturesque nine holes in what is regarded as
one of the most scenic valleys in Ireland. The traditional values
of the old course have been maintained and a further nine holes
added to make Woodenbridge a spectacular 18 hole course. Now a
full length 6344 yards, the course at Woodenbridge offers a challenging
round of golf.
The par of the course is 71, however this may give an impression
that the course is less than challenging, nothing could be further
from the truth. Visitors to Woodenbridge will rapidly become aware
of the extensive influence of the natural terrain on the course.
The Avonmore River bisects the course coming into play on almost
half the holes while the mature woods of the valley make most
of the other holes a comprehensive test of distance and accuracy.
The new nine holes have already taken on a maturity that belies
their youth and Woodenbridge is set to become a golfing highlight
in Ireland.
