The
6,739 yards, par 72 Charlesland Course was designed by Ireland's
foremost golf architect, Eddie Hackett, who can claim such superb
layouts as Waterville, Connemara, Murvagh and Enniscrone to an
impessive list of credits.
As
an established architect his enthusiasm for Charlesland was immediate,
"I couldn't have asked for a better parkland site,"
he enthused.
"Apart from its gently rolling terrain, a delightful feature
is offered by the lime kiln, situated to the left of the third
green. Then there is the crucial, boundary security, offered to
the east by the railway line."
Our proximity to the sea allows us to offer our visitors ready
access to sailing and angling. We are also within easy reach of
three equestrian centres and top-quality tennis facilities.
Then,
for the more passive sporty types, there is the opportunity of
watching first division rugby union matches at Dr.Hickey Park,
the home of Greystones RFC where Irish internationals Nick Popplewell,
John Murphy and Brian Rigny are first-team regulars.
County
Wicklow is a haven for the tourist who likes nothing better than
to observe rugged, natural beauty in all its splendour. In this
regard, Powerscourt Gardens and the famous waterfall are not to
be missed. Then there is the quiet delight of Mount Usher Gardens,
again within a short driving distance from Charlesland.
